Federal Drug Agents Seize $130 Million Worth of Cocaine
BROWNSVILLE, Texas (AP) _ Federal agents pulled over a suspicious-looking tractor-trailer and found 3,080 pounds of cocaine, valued at more than $130 million, stashed in its roof, U.S. customs officials said.
It was the largest single drug seizure ever made in this border city.
The driver, Nicolas Peraza Pico, was charged with smuggling, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute. He was being held on a $1 million cash bond.
Federal drug agents pulled over the rig on Monday because it showed signs of fresh paint near its rear cargo doors.
The largest drug seizure in Brownsville had been 2,913 pounds of cocaine, confiscated in 1991.
