Bridgeport deemed storm ready
BRIDGEPORT — The city has received the National Weather Service’s “StormReady” designation in recognition of the city’s ongoing efforts to prepare for the possibility of severe weather.
Director of the Office of Emergency Management & Homeland Security Scott Appleby said the 2010 tornado, Superstorm Sandy, Tropical Storm Irene and the September flash flooding remains in the minds of city residents and officials.
“Everyone plays a role in preparing for hazards,” Appleby said. “Over the past several years, we as a city experienced some devastating damages due to severe weather ... As the Bridgeport Emergency Communications and Operations Center, we want to ensure that we and the residents are prepared now and into the future.”
