Bethune-Cookman 56, S. Carolina St. 51

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Jaime Grant’s ninth steal of the game secured Bethune-Cookman’s 56-51 upset of South Carolina State on Monday night.

The Wildcats handed the Bulldogs their first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference loss of the year, snapping SC State’s winning streak at seven games and extending their own string of victories to four.

B-CC (8-9) rebounded to 4-5 in the MEAC after losing its first five conference games. SC State is 12-5, 7-1.

Grant also hit two free throws with 4.3 seconds to play after the Bulldogs had sent him to the line.

Reggie Bellamy scored a team-high 18 points, 12 in the first half, as the Wildcats built a 25-20 advantage at halftime. Lonnie Mincey chipped in 11 points, and Tyrone White added 10 for the Wildcats.

SC State’s Rodney Blakney tallied a game-high 21 points, but missed a pair of 3-point attempts and a free throw in the final minute after the Bulldogs had cut a 10-point deficit to three points, 54-51. Jamal Brown added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
