Design for Lake George treatment plant nearly finished
LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (AP) — Officials say they’ll complete design work for Lake George’s proposed $22 million wastewater treatment plan by the end of next month.
Engineers Shawn Doty and Mike Budris unveiled the preliminary designs on Monday in the village of Lake George. The Post Star reports the village is under a consent order from the state to build a new wastewater plant.
The current plant releases an excessive amount of nitrates. That causes algae blooms in the lake and degrades water quality.
Lake George is a popular tourist destination in the southeastern corner of the Adirondacks. The lake played a strategic role in the French and Indian War and was later described by Thomas Jefferson as having “the most beautiful water” he had ever seen.
