‘Very excited’: Aiken family welcomes first baby of 2019
While some greeted 2019 with a glass of champagne, a toast, a kiss, or all three, one local family welcomed the new year with a newborn.
Hailey Shanell Milian Alvarez was born Tuesday; she was Aiken Regional Medical Centers’ first baby of 2019.
Alvarez – 5 pounds, 7 ounces – was born at 1:46 p.m. that day.
Her mother, Immaculada Del Rosario Alvarez Marroquin, and her father, Melvin Francisco Milian Carrer, on Wednesday morning said they were “very excited” and “very happy.” The interview with the family – big sister Joely included – was done with the help of a translator.
Carrer said the care at Aiken Regional Medical Centers was great, adding that the nurses were very helpful. Together, they joked Joely would need to start sharing.
Alvarez’s birth was celebrated Wednesday with a large, congratulatory gift basket, which the hospital supplied. Baby necessities and other new mom supplies are included in the basket.
The family lives in Aiken after moving from Virginia about seven months ago.
