Boy Falls Under Wheel of Tractor Driven by 6-Year-Old Sister
VISALIA, Calif. (AP) _ A 21-month-old boy died in his father’s arms after falling under a wheel of a tractor being driven by his 6-year-old sister, who regularly helped out on the family farm, authorities reported.
Matthew Dragt apparently was trying to get into the driver’s seat when he fell Wednesday, said his father, William Dragt, 32.
″He’d try once in a while to drive,″ he said. ″Apparently, he decided he wanted to really drive, but he ended up on the ground and it rolled over him.″
Dragt told Tulare County sheriff’s deputies that his daughter, Rachel, often drove the tractor while he stood on a trailer tossing hay to their cows.
Dragt said he often had his three children - Matthew, Rachel and 4-year-old Daniel - with him while he did the chores on their dairy farm 150 miles north of Los Angeles.
″They loved to be with me when I fed the cows; that was one of their greatest things,″ Dragt said. ″My oldest girl usually drives for me. She goes real slow.″
