Coppin St. 85, Florida A&M 60
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ Tariq Saunders scored 24 points and Kyle Lock added 20 as Coppin State beat Florida A&M 85-60 Monday night to remain atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference standings.
Coppin State (14-8, 11-1) appeared headed for a third consecutive conference title, while the Rattlers (4-19, 1-11) could finish again in the MEAC cellar.
Ricky Davis led Florida A&M with 27 points.
Florida A&M came out strong, scoring the game’s first eight points in less than two minutes as Coppin State struggled from the field. But that turned out to be the Rattlers’ biggest lead of the night as Coppin State came back from a time out and chipped away at the lead.
A Sidney Goodman jumper tied the game at 15 as the Eagles completed a 9-2 run. Despite only shooting 31 percent from the field for the half, Coppin State eventually took a 40-31 lead into the locker room as Florida A&M dropped to just 25.7 percent.
For the game, the Rattlers connected on just 29.8 percent of its shots.
Coppin State ended up shooting 46.5 percent for the game and outrebounded the Rattlers 54-39.
In the second half, the Eagles outscored the Rattlers 30-8 in the first 12 minutes as Coppin State took a 31-point lead, 70-39, and cruised to an easy win.
