RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Coby White of Wilson Greenfield and Elissa Cunane of Northern Guilford are The Associated Press men's and women's prep players of the year for North Carolina.

Preston Davis of Charlotte Independence and Darlene Joyner of Northwest Guilford were selected as the men's and women's coaches of the year in results released Friday following a vote of 16 statewide media members.

White, a North Carolina recruit who played in the McDonald's All-America game, nearly averaged a triple-double with 30.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and 9.2 assists. He also scored 3,511 career points, breaking the record set by JamesOn Curry in 2004.

Cunane, who is headed to North Carolina State, averaged 20.4 points and 12.6 rebounds while leading Northern Guilford to a second straight Class 3-A state championship.

Davis earned the men's coaching award after leading Independence to its first 4-A title since 1997. The women's award went to Joyner for guiding Northwest Guilford to a 4-A championship.

The only unanimous selection to either all-state team was Nyjanique Langley, a 27.1-point scorer who led the North Pitt women to their second 2-A title in three years while averaging 29.8 points in the postseason. Cunane was the lone three-time all-state selection on either team.
