Authorities identify driver killed in wrong-way crash
PLEASANTVILLE, N.J. (AP) — Authorities have released the name of a speeding wrong-way driver who was killed when he collided with another vehicle on a southern New Jersey roadway and struck a utility pole.
Pleasantville police say Robert Gonzalez Jr. went through a red light on Main Street and sideswiped another car around 11:30 p.m. Monday. The 42-year-old Atlantic City man then began traveling east in the westbound lanes of Delilah Road before he lost control of the car and hit the pole.
Gonzalez was soon pulled from his vehicle but was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The driver of the other car, a 55-year-old Absecon man, was not hurt.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
