Tickets are on sale in the La Porte High School athletic office for this Friday’s homecoming football game versus Crown Point. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
LP boys soccer drops DAC decision
La Porte’s boys soccer team fell 4-0 to visiting Chesterton on Wednesday on Senior Night. The Slicers played well in the game, but the undefeated and Class 3A No. 1 Trojans scored two goals in each half. La Porte now prepares for the opening match of the Class 3A Penn Sectional on Monday at 6 p.m.
Cougars volleyball falls at Penn
New Prairie volleyball was swept 25-12, 25-22, 25-19 on Wednesday night at Penn. Elise Swistek led the Cougars with 12 kills, followed by Olivia Kelly with three. Sarah Fronk dished out 11 assists and added a kill. Digs leader was Katie Hancock with 12, followed by Fronk with nine and Josie Troy with seven.
Soccer sectional pairings set
Sectional pairings for boys and girls soccer sectionals have been set.
On Monday, host Penn plays La Porte’s boys at 6 p.m. On Tuesday at LaVille (Newton Park), Marquette’s boys face Washington Township at 5, while the Blazers girls meet Morgan Township at the same time at Wheeler. The Michigan City girls take on Chesterton at 5 at Portage.
The Michigan City boys open against Merrillville at 7 on Thursday at Valparaiso with La Porte’s girls meeting the Penn-South Bend Adams winner that night at 6 in the South Bend Riley Sectional at Jackson Intermediate School.
Slicers girls soccer drubs Clay
La Porte’s girls soccer team blanked South Bend Clay 10-0 on Saturday morning at Kesling Park. The Slicers’ Megan Blank tallied a hat trick with three goals, and Gabby Latchford and Jasmine Diaz each had two goals. Morgan Llewellyn, Hannah Hartsburg and Grace Holt all scored one goal. The goalie Holt recorded her seventh shutout of the season.
Blazers girls soccer scores Senior Night win
Marquette scored three unanswered goals to down E.C. Central 3-1 in a Senior Night girls soccer match Wednesday. Riley Lindsey pulled Marquette even with 4:11 remaining on the first-half clock and Claire Salyer unfastened the 1-1 tie with 19:54 remaining in regulation when she scored on a free kick. Freshman Halana Herrera provided an insurance tally 15 minutes later. McKena Moore recorded six saves in net in her final home match at the MAC. Marquette honored its eight graduating seniors (Nathaly Reynaga, Mika Finney, Kassandra Loza, Moore, Summer Johnson, Dia Rallings, Ukari Payne and Salyer) afterward.
Night Golf at Valley Hills
Night Golf at Valley Hills Golf Course in Rolling Prairie will be Oct. 5. Tee off is at dark around 7 p.m. The public is welcomed. Interested people are asked to call ahead for reservations if you want, but it’s not required. First place is a 2019 season membership to Valley Hills Golf Course. Blazers Dig Pink for Marquette volleyball
Marquette volleyball will hold its Dig Pink Night on Oct. 3 when the Blazers host Kouts. The JV match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity match to follow.
The Dig Pink initiative is hosted in conjunction with the Side-Out Foundation. Funds raised for Side-Out go toward a clinical trial specifically for patients with stage 4 breast cancer, the most advanced form of the disease and the least funded of research. Fans are encouraged to wear pink apparel on the 6th.
The Blazers have set a goal of $1,000. Donations may be made on Marquette’s Dig Pink site (https://giving.side-out.org/campaigns/14554#/) or in person on Oct. 3.
Pumpkin Festival 3-on-3 basketball tourney
The annual Pumpkin Festival 3-on-3 basketball tourney will be at Westville High School on Sunday. It will have girls and boys divisions from 4th grade up to adult divisions. This will be double elimination and the entry fee is $75. Registration will begin around 7:30 a.m. with games around 8:15 a.m. Trophies will be given to first-place winners and T-shirts will be given to all participants.
