Puerto Rico unveils trolleys at El Yunque forest
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Officials at Puerto Rico’s popular El Yunque tropical rain forest have unveiled its first ever trolley system.
The $2.3 million system features three trolleys with a capacity of 66 passengers that will guide tourists from Yokahu Tower to the path that leads to Mt. Britton.
Puerto Rico Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi says tours will begin July 3 and are free for two years.
He said Friday that the municipality of Rio Grande will pick up the $75,000 annual tab to operate the U.S.-funded trolley system.
El Yunque is the only tropical rain forest within the U.S. forest system.
