Officials in Bosnia condemn political violence
SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) — An academic who criticized the Bosnian Croat leadership is recovering from a brutal beating which he says was politically motivated.
Professor Slavo Kukic was beaten with a baseball bat Monday in the southern city of Mostar. Kukic, a Bosnian Croat, said in a television interview that he was attacked for criticizing the Bosnian Croat leadership for welcoming war criminal Dario Kordic as a hero.
Kordic was released after having served two-thirds of his 25-year sentence. A U.N. court found him guilty of killing 116 Muslims in central Bosnia during the 1992-95 war.
U.S., European and many local officials joined Tuesday in demanding that police promptly find the perpetrator.
