2. Number of points BYU will need to beat Utah
2. Utah’s defense is one of the best BYU will face this season. How many points will the Cougars have to score in order to have a shot at winning the game?
LLOYD: In Utah’s three losses, the Utes have surrendered 38 points, 28 points and 21 points. I’m not sure BYU’s defense can stymie the Utah offense like Washington did in Week 3, so I think the Cougars will need to get in the end zone multiple times. Field goals aren’t going to cut it. I think the Cougars have to put at least 28 points on the board and the most important thing will be for BYU to take advantage of any good field position it gets. Missed opportunities have killed the Cougars in this series in many of the last seven meetings.
DICKSON: I see this as a low-scoring game. The BYU defense has been pretty good this year and we won’t see a lot of the “rush 3, drop 8” strategy that didn’t work well against UMass and New Mexico State. The Utes will try to run the ball and chew up the clock. I think the Cougars could hold Utah to 20 points or less, so BYU will have to score at least 20 to have a shot.
