Hanshaw is this week’s boy gamer
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. & the Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to sophomore Alec Hanshaw of Buffalo High School.
Although an underclassman, Alec’s performance thus far does not illustrate that as such. Over the Bison’s first 4 games, he has averaged over 17 points per game, and is approximately 77 percent from the field. Recently, the Bison have improved to 3-1 with a victory over the Hannan Wildcats 72-61. Alec tallied a total of 18 points and 5 rebounds to help his team secure a solid win. With tough opponents to face soon, the young center will play a vital role to obtain success throughout the rest of the season.
From a young age, basketball has become most fitting. When asked about what makes the sport so special to him, he said, “I love the flow of the game. I feel most comfortable with it.”
Although Alec explored other sports throughout his life, basketball turned out to be the one for him. The feeling he gets from scoring, rebounding, or quick ball movement is unlike any other.
“Feeling the rush at home games... the crowd, the cheers, the student section... I feel like it’s another world,” Alec said.
The goal in mind for Alec and the rest of his team is to make a state tournament appearance. To do that, it requires a team effort. Head coach Adam Scott provides his players with the skills and inspiration to reach their goals.
Aside from the coaching staff, when asked about Alec’s inspiration, he had a great mindset. “I see previous players from over the years posted on the walls here and I see their success,” he said. Observing the honors those past athletes have received is something he wants to replicate. In fact, one of those athletes is his mother Jamie. She represented the Bison as well, and Alec graciously takes her advice and previous successes as a tool to improve his play. The involvement of his mom, dad, and coach has provided him with the necessary guidance to build himself into a great individual on and off the court.
Mr. Hanshaw carries a 4.0 and is the son of Jim and Jaime Hanshaw. Alec is also in the concert band at BHS. He plans to attend college and major in engineering or mathematical degree and hopes for the chance to play basketball at the next level.
Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s male Gamer of the Week sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. & The Putnam Herald.
