School crossing guard suffered severe injuries
The crossing guard struck by a Fort Wayne Community Schools bus Tuesday is still in the hospital and “not doing well,” according to his supervisor.
Linda York, the crossing guard supervisor, said Mark Hennings, 63, suffered trauma to his legs and head. As a result of head trauma, he has memory loss and has a long recovery, York added.
Fort Wayne Police said Wednesday the man had been released from the hospital.
Two assistant teachers from Lane Middle School administered CPR to Hennings before police arrived, York said, but she did not have their names.
Hennings was standing in the middle of Reed Road at Vance Avenue around 2:30 p.m., holding out his sign when the bus hit him, according to Lt. Tony Maze, Fort Wayne police traffic expert.
