Conn. House Fire Kills Four Kids
NORWICH, Conn. (AP) _ Four children under age 13 died in a fire Saturday while their mother was at work, authorities said.
An older brother, who arrived home about 6:30 p.m. to find the duplex in flames, called the fire department, said Norwich Fire Chief James Walsh.
When firefighters arrived, all three stories on one side of the building were in flames, Walsh said.
The bodies of the children, who ranged in age from 4 to 13 were found in a bedroom on the third floor.
``In terms of children, this is one of the worst things I’ve seen,″ Walsh said.
Firefighters attempted to use the stairs to reach the children but they were burned away, he said. It took firefighters about 1 1/2 hours to bring the blaze under control.
The names of the children were not released.
The cause of the fire had not been determined.
