Fishing banned at Stratford sea wall
STRATFORD — The town has banned fishing off the sea wall on Beach Drive, police announced Friday.
“After a review of health and safety concerns and in response to numerous complaints of potentially unsafe conditions related to fishing the Town of Stratford Waterfront and Harbor Management Commission voted to prohibit fishing at the sea wall,” Capt. Frank Eannotti said.
The ban is part of an existing town ordinance that prohibits fishing in any recreational area, expect places designated by the town to allow it.
Those interested in fishing are encouraged to avoid designated swimming areas. The town established designated fishing areas at Bond’s Dock and Birdseye Street fishing pier.
“The Stratford Police Department encourages the safe and respectful use of Stratford’s recreational areas,” Eannotti said.
