Treasury Bonds Move Lower
NEW YORK (AP) _ Treasury bond prices were lower today.
The price of the Treasury’s main 30-year bond was down 9-16 point, or $5.62 1/2 per $1,000 in face value, around midday, while its yield rose to 6.12 percent from 6.08 percent late Tuesday. Prices and yields move in opposite directions.
Yields on three-month Treasury bills hovered around 5.82 percent as the discount rose 0.01 percentage point from Tuesday’s auction to 5.65 percent. Six-month yields were 6.01 percent as the discount fell 0.02 percentage point from the weekly auction to 5.75 percent. One-year yields rose to 6.20 percent as the discount rose 0.02 point to 5.85 percent.
Yields are the interest bonds pay by maturity, while the discount is the interest at which they are sold.
