Second man dies after crash in Holyoke, victims identified

HOLYOKE, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say two people have now died after a head-on collision involving at least two vehicles in Holyoke.

The victims were identified as 50-year-old George Rios and 71-year-old Jimmy Wright. Both are from Holyoke.

Police say Rios died in the crash but emergency crews were able to extricate Wright, who was trapped in one of the vehicles.

Wright later died at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

The crash happened at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police closed Route 5 north between the Mount Tom Access Road and the Easthampton line to investigate, but reopened it around 2 a.m. Friday.

The crash is under investigation.
