Boulder County Voters Can Submit Comments About Ballot Issue

September 17, 2018

Boulder County voters can submit written comments for or against a sales tax proposal the Board of County Commissioners placed on the Nov. 6 election ballot.

The measure, Boulder County Issue 1A, would, if it passes, extend collections of an existing 0.185 percent county sales and use tax and apply the revenues for construction of an alternative sentencing facility and upgrades to the existing county jail.

Michelle Krezek, the commissioners’ staff deputy who will be summarizing pro and con comments for a ballot information booklet to be sent to county voters, said people can email comments to her, at mkrezek@bouldercounty.org, but she has to receive them by Friday.

The ballot measure would extend an existing 0.185 percent countywide sales tax that voters originally approved for funding flood recovery expenses, a tax that’s set to expire Dec. 31, 2019. Boulder County Issue 1A would continue collections of that tax for five years through Dec. 31, 2024, to pay for the alternative sentencing facility and the jail modernization work.
