STRATFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. plans to cut 267 employees this month in the third round of job cuts since October. The layoffs will affect aircraft assembly and manufacturing employees across operations.
The employees will receive severance based on their time with the company, said Harvey Jackson, president of Teamsters Local 1150, which represents the workers.
Last month, the helicopter maker laid off 150 salaried employees and 90 union workers in October. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of Connecticut-based United Technologies Corp.
Sikorsky said that while sales to the U.S. government remain steady, deliveries of helicopters to international customers are declining.
``International deliveries have represented more than half of Sikorsky’s helicopter production over the past five years, but the international market for helicopters is in a temporary downturn,″ the company said in a news release.
