Foreign Minister Suffers Heart Attack
JIDDA, Saudi Arabia (AP) _ Bangladesh Foreign Minister Humayun Rashid Choudhury suffered a heart attack early Friday in his hotel room in this Red Sea port city, hospital officials said.
Choudhury, who had been foreign minister since July, was attending an Islamic peace committee meeting on the five-year-old Iran-Iraq war.
Diplomatic sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said Choudhury, 57, complained of chest pains at 4 a.m. while at his hotel.
The minister was admitted to the intensive care unit of King Fahd Military Hospital. Personnel in the unit said Choudhury had suffered a heart attack and said he was expected to remain hospitalized for several days. They spoke on condition they not be identified.
Bangladesh President Hossein Mohammed Ershad visited Choudhury on Friday afternoon.
