Thank You For Serving Our Country

November 14, 2018

Editor: Dear corrections officers, veterans and non-veterans, I salute your courage, bravery and most of all, your sacrifice that continues on behind those fences here at State Correctional Institution -- Retreat. Please accept this special “thank you” from one American who truly appreciates your willingness to serve our great country and continue to serve as corrections officers here where I temporarily live. The cost is enormous. Also, the dedication you give is tremendous. Your protection and military skills guided me to have the courage to get through my years of incarceration with no difficulty. Your call of duty goes beyond words. I may be locked up, but I feel at ease and protected knowing these brave corrections officers watch over me even as I sleep. Thank you for keeping us safe and my country at ease. It makes me proud to be an American. I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart. My dad was a former U.S. Marine Corps sergeant and raised me to know what America is all about. Let us all thank a veteran today. James R. McDonald HUNLOCK CREEK
