COTTAGE GROVE — Watertown’s girls golf team defeated Monona Grove 199-204 in a Badger South dual match held at Door Creek Golf Club on Friday.
Leading Watertown were Micah Yaeggi and Hannah Thompson with 48’s.
“Micah played her steady game,” Watertown girls golf coach Michael Wietor said. “Micah is driving the ball beautifully, but needs to tighten up her short game to get to the next level. Hannah can play wonderful shots, but a misplayed (ball) or mistake with a club costs her. She had three double bogies and two triple bogies. I can’t wait for Hannah to put it all together.”
Next for Watertown were Andrea Tietz and Nia Fredrich with 51 and 52, respectively.
“Both girls were a little off their games,” Weitor said. “Andrea needs to work on her short game and Nia has to stay away from the big number. She had a 9.”
Marni Wickert’s score was not used.
“Marni was going along fairly well until a 13 derailed her,” Wietor said. “Marni is showing signs that she can be a consistent addition to the varsity team.”
JV wins: The Watertown JV team defeated Monona Grove 236-280. Lauren Harshbarger led the Goslings with a 55.
“Lauren is starting to show signs of her wonderful play of last season,” Wietor said.
Next was Sammy Suski with a 58.
“Sammy was off her regular game her driving and long iron game have really improved but needs to improve her chipping and putting,” Wietor said.
Rachael Sprenger and Savannah Szlanski finished off the scoring with 61 and 62.
“Both girls show potential, but have things they need to work on,” Wietor said.
Shaylyn Dunn, playing in her first match and her first nine holes ever, scored a 70.
“I was very happy with her improvement,” Wietor said.
