Wendy’s Names New President
DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) _ James W. Near was named Tuesday as president and chief operating officer of Wendy’s International Inc. He replaces Ronald Fay, who announced his retirement effective at the end of the year, the company said.
Wendy’s said Near - currently president and chief operating officer of Sisters restaurants, a Wendy’s subsidiary - would take over immediately. Fay will serve as vice chairman during the transition period and will remain on the company’s board of directors and serve as a consultant after this year.
Near, 48, joined Wendy’s in 1974 as a franchise owner and helped develope Sisters restaurants. He was elected to Wendy’s board of directors in 1981.
Fay, 57, became a Wendy’s executive in 1979 and helped the restaurant chain double its number of outlets to more than 3,600.
Wendy’s is based in Dublin, northwest of Columbus.
