LUXEMBOURG (AP) _ Anna Kournikova’s brief run at the SEAT Open ended Friday with a 7-5, 7-6 (2) loss to top-seeded Kim Clijsters of Belgium in the quarterfinals.
Kournikova has missed most of the season because of a foot injury and has yet to win a WTA title.
Clijsters will play third-seed Amanda Coetzer of South Africa in Saturday’s semifinals of the $170,000 tournament. Coetzer defeated Kveta Hrdlickova of the Czech Republic 3-6, 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3).
Clijsters won the SEAT Open in 1999 and Coetzer won two years earlier.
Qualifier Tina Pisnik of Slovenia advanced to the semifinals with a 7-6 (1), 7-6 (5) victory over Meilin Tu. Pisnik will play the winner of Friday’s match between doubles specialist Lisa Raymond and Germany’s Anke Huber, the 1996 SEAT winner.
Before this week, Kournikova had lost all five of her matches since coming back from a stress fracture of her left foot. The Russian won two matches before losing to Clijsters.
