Sheriff investigates shooting in Roseburg
A Roseburg man was arrested after allegedly shooting another man during an argument at the Valley View Mobile homes Park on Tuesday morning.
At approximately 1 a.m., deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting in the 200 block of Emils Way. Police said an argument broke out in one of the trailers when Nicholas McElmurry, 34, arrived, got involved in the argument, and then shot 30-year-old Ricky Gibbons.
Gibbons was taken to CHI Mercy Medical Center before he was transferred to PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield. Police said Gibbons’ current condition is unknown but his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Two K-9 units from the Roseburg Police Department also arrived to the scene in an effort to locate McElmurry who had fled from the area.
About an hour later, one of the K-9 units tracked down the suspect who was hiding underneath a trailer.
McElmurry was taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, a Measure 11 crime that holds a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 90 months upon conviction. More charges are expected, according to the sheriff’s office.
Detectives are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking those with information to call 541-440-4471.
