USC Aiken women post win over Lenoir-Rhyne

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball team posted an 86-69 victory over Lenoir-Rhyne Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-1 overall.
Head coach Mark Miller’s team was led by Kwajelin Farrar’s double-double effort with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Kyrie’ Chandler was solid as well, contributing 18 points.
Grace Crawford added nine points and dished out seven assists in the contest.
After holding a 19-17 edge in the first quarter, Miller’s squad exploded for 31 in the second stanza. The Pacers held a 22-21 advantage before Melyk Taouil buried a three-ball. Chandler followed it up with back-to-back shots from distance for a 31-21 margin.
Leading 43-36, Farrar and Janae’ Simpson hit baskets before Chandler hit a shot from behind the three-point stripe with one tick left before intermission.
The teams played even in the third quarter and Taouil pushed the lead to 23 on a three-ball off a pass from Alex Canady with 4:42 to play in the game. The Pacers maintained the 20-point-plus lead until the waning minutes of the contest.
For the game, USC Aiken outscored the Bears 27-20 off the bench. Miller’s team held a 34-30 margin in the paint as well. The Pacers never trailed in the contest and registered a 39-30 lead in rebounding margin.
