Cartoonist event cancelled in France due to security issues
PARIS (AP) — A museum in the French city of Caen has cancelled its annual political cartoon festival due to concerns over security issues following recent terror attacks in Paris and Copenhagen.
Stephane Grimaldi, director of the Caen Memorial, said in a statement that “Under no circumstances can we take the slightest risk for the cartoonists, for our audience and for the employees of the Caen Memorial.”
Grimaldi said some French and foreign cartoonists had expressed concerns since the attack at a free speech event in Copenhagen this month, and the museum’s website has been recently hacked several times.
The fifth-annual event celebrating political cartoons was due to gather artists from around the world in April in the Caen Memorial, a museum focusing on World War II.
