Beatrice American Legion Auxiliary meeting notes
The Beatrice American Legion Auxiliary met January 14 at the Veteran’s Club. President Loree Dienstbier presided over the meeting. Acting Chaplain Verneal Dodge gave the opening prayer, led members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and singing the National Anthem. Six officers answered roll call and four were absent. Hostesses were Marian Melcher and Lori Balke. Membership stands at 171. Zita Lomax reported giving 10 memorial wreaths; Verneal Dodge sent 3 cards and two funeral luncheons were served. Six birthday cards were sent to shut-in veterans. The Mid-Year Conference is Jan. 18-20 in Norfolk.
Members presented ideas for the upcoming 100 Anniversary of the National American Legion and Beatrice Post #27. The National birth date was March 15, 1919 and the Beatrice Post #27 began August 10, 1919. Lori Balke is the General Chairwoman of the open house celebration to be held Friday, March 15, 2019. Members willl be preparing different events for this occasion.
March 10 is the annual birthday supper for Beatrice Post. The first Auxiliary chicken supper for 2019 is Wednesday January 23. Public is invited. On January 27 at 1:30 PM, a “Quilt of Valor” will be presented to Erin Schoen. She served in the U.S. Air Force from 2004 to 2017. The District #11 Convention is February 17 at Tobias. The Beatrice Post and auxiliary will be conducting the Memorial Service at this convention.
The next meeting is Feb. 11 with hostess Faye Hagen. The program will be given by Dorothy Trauernicht on Patriotism.
