Mountain Top Wins 8-9-10 Title

Jaden Shedlock pitched three innings for the win, hit a triple and tallied three RBIs as Mountain Top defeated Abington American, 5-4, to capture the Section 5 8-9-10 baseball championship Friday night at its home field.

Mountain Top advances to the state tournament, which starts Tuesday at Indiana Little League. The team will open states with against Section 2’s champion.

Zach Stavish and Chase Galella both went 2 for 3 in Friday’s win. Jack Rodgers added a hit and an RBI.

Evan Gonzalez led Abington American at the plate in a 2 for 4 night that included two runs scored.

Section 5 Junior Baseball

At Plains, Nicholas Cerasaro pitched his way to a complete-game win with four strikeouts for Pittston Area in a 15-4 decision over Back Mountain in five innings.

Ryan Turant had a hit, a run and two RBIs for Pittston Area.

Brayden Powers tallied a hit and three runs scored for the winners, while Aidan Flaim added two hits and two runs.

Back Mountain’s Jacob Koons had a run and a hit. Jared Adamski had two hits and a run.

Pittston Area will play the Section 5 final against Abington at 11 a.m. today. Pittston Area needs to win twice.
