Pittsfield man charged in murder-for-hire plot
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Pittsfield ice cream truck owner and driver has been charged with trying to hire someone to kill his wife.
Recep Sarikcioglu (rej-EP’ sah-REEK’-chee-OG’-loo) was ordered held on $25,000 bail Wednesday, after a judge denied the prosecutor’s request to have him held without bail as a dangerous person.
Authorities say the 28-year-old Sarikcioglu had been charged with assaulting his estranged wife in May, then allegedly violated a restraining order, which landed him in jail. Prosecutors said while in jail, he offered another inmate $10,000 to either cut the brakes on his wife’s car or tamper with the natural gas line at her home. The other inmate told police.
The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/14Luj1V ) reports that Sarikcioglu’s lawyer said his client has no criminal record and the informant is unreliable.
