Lady Dust Devils squeak by 34-33
BULLHEAD CITY — Shalice Sedano scored 10 points and Bruke Zozaya added eight to lead the Lady Dust Devils over the Lady T-birds at Mohave High School on Wednesday night.
The 34-33 victory was Josh Noonan’s first as Lady Dust Devils’ head coach.
Noonan said that the win was “more important” for his 1-1 overall Lady Dust Devils.
“A win is way better than a loss,” Noonan said. “Winning against this team in their house is huge for us — playing against our cross-town rival.”
River Valley led 8-2 with 3:11 left in the first period, as Veronica Gonzalez scored six points to lead the Dust Devils.
Natalie Willmore tallied four points and Kylee Heath added three points to account for Mohave offensive production, as the Dust Devils led 8-7 after one quarter.
Allison Interior hit two 3-pointers for her six second-quarter points, which helped the 1-1 overall Mohave squad take a 18-17 lead into the intermission.
River Valley’s Dellaney Hook scored all six of her points in the first half.
Dae’zha Goodloe scored five points for Mohave and Sedano tallied five for River Valley, as the T-birds led 27-25 after three periods.
“I made a mistake,” said T-birds head coach Herb Williams said about Goodloe. “I left her on the bench a little too long.
“She did a good job.”
Williams added: “They outhustled us the whole game; I have to give them credit.”
