Community concert membership drive extended

September 17, 2018

La PORTE — One of the best kept secrets in La Porte is the fantastic bargain for professional, live entertainment offered by the La Porte Community Concert Association.

An adult season ticket will admit one into 23 concerts for $50. That’s a little over $2 per concert! Four concerts are in La Porte, four are in Valparaiso, four are in Munster, four are in Portage, six are in Munster and five are in Warsaw.

The quality of the performers is excellent and the variety of entertainment is wide.

For instance, the program on Oct. 16 in La Porte at the Presbyterian Church, 307 Kingsbury Ave. is called The Funniest Night of Your Life, featuring Todd Oliver — comedian, ventriloquist and musician.

Oliver leads the audience through a range of hilarity from canine conversations with Irving, his talking dog, to the amazing ventriloquism featuring Pops, Miss Lilly and Joey, his lively suitcase family.

The second concert in La Porte on Nov. 2 features Charlie Albright, pianist, who has been hailed as “among the most gifted musicians of his generation” by the Washington Post. American pianist/composer/improviser, Albright has been praised for his “jaw-dropping technique” by the New York Times.

The third concert in La Porte on April 7, 2019, features The North American Brass Company, a classically trained brass quintet comprised of members from throughout the Michiana area. Chuck Steck, a well-known, respected trumpeter and orchestral director from La Porte, is a member of this outstanding quintet.

For those who want to hear some music from the Beatle’s, Bob Halligan Jr. portrays Paul McCartney through his career in the fourth concert in La Porte on May 9, 2019. Through the laughter and the tears Paul traces the band’s musical journey and his contributions to it, doing so with no back-up musicians, only Paul on keyboard, guitar and bass.

The La Porte Community Concert Association is a 501(c)3 organization that has brought internationally known artists to La Porte for 96 years. It is supported by ticket sales and contributions from businesses and individuals.
