Happy Hour: Paladar Latin Kitchen at Eton one of the top deals in Cleveland

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Yes, we can point to the price. After all, it is Happy Hour where the deal is as big of a draw as the food. Paladar Latin Kitchen comes up with a super-low starting price: $3.95, which will fetch you four items, including the stellar Sweet Plantains or the Crispy Yucca Fries plates.

What separates this Nuevo Latin spot, however, is that there are many more dishes on the “Latin Street Food” menu. The Chicken Tacos (two for $5.95) are succulent and tasty. The Portobello & Queso Blanco Empanadas plate ($5.95) is as tasty, and a rare a find in Happyland. The Blackened Fish Taco plate delivers a spicy kick (two for $7.95).

Now, the big one ... The El Cubano sandwich — pulled pork, ham and Swiss cheese. Yes, it’s at the upper range when it comes to price, $7.95. But it’s also the best I’ve had since I was in Miami’s Little Havana. And it goes very well with the yucca fries, which come with three dipping sauces and will fill two people just fine.

I could raise a mojito to this place. Make that a pomegranate-ginger mojito ($5) – the star on a drink list that includes sangrias and margaritas. Well done all the way around.
