POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) _ Tailback Jovan Rhodes rushed for a game-high 153 yards, helping Marist to a 28-20 victory over St. John’s of New York in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

The Red Foxes (4-2 overall, 3-2 MAAC) struck first when Mike Zoller scored on a 21-yard reverse in the first quarter.

St. John’s (3-2, 2-2) tied the score in the second stanza when Mark Levine hit Ken Forte with a 1-yard touchdown pass.

The tie was broken 15 seconds later, when Paul Deckaj took the ensuing kickoff and scampered 90 yards to the end zone.

Marist widened its lead in the third quarter when Sam Godfrey scored on a 4-yard run. The Red Storm answered the tally less than four minutes later, as Forte was on the receiving end of a 10-yard scoring strike from Levine.

Marist put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter when Rhodes scored on a 9-yard carry following a fumble by Levine.

Marist netted a total of 331 net yards on the ground.

Levine completed 11 of 20 passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns in a losing cause.
