PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Phillies Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt says Philadelphia center fielder Odubel Herrera can be a team leader as he “becomes more comfortable with the language.” Schmidt drew criticism today for saying in an interview on 94 WIP-FM that Herrera’s language barrier prevented him from being a player the Phillies can build their team around.

PARIS (AP) — The French Open men’s quarterfinals involving Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) have been postponed because of rain. The two men’s singles matches on today’s schedule have been moved to Wednesday. They are No. 4 Nadal vs. No. 20 Pablo Carreno Busta, and No. 2 Djokovic vs. No. 6 Dominic Thiem (teem).

PARIS (AP) — Teenager Jelena Ostapenko advanced to the semifinals of the French Open by rallying past former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2. Ostapenko is the first woman from Latvia to make it to a Grand Slam semifinal in the professional era. Timea Bacsinszky will celebrate her 28th birthday by playing in the semifinals of the French Open after a straight-set victory over home favorite Kristina Mladenovic.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue says he’s not making any lineup changes for tomorrow’s Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Despite the Cavs being down 2-0 to Golden State after being roughed up in the first two games of the series, Lue said he’s sticking with his starters, including guard J.R. Smith, who has scored just 3 points so far.

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Three Michigan State football players have been charged with criminal sexual conduct in connection with an incident that happened on campus in January. Arrest warrants name Donnie Corley Jr., Demetric Vance and Josh King. All three players have been kicked off the team.
