Alice Pauline (Kathka) Acker

Alice Pauline (Kathka) Acker, 95 of Magnolia Springs, Ala. formerly of Beatrice passed away at her home with her children by her side Oct. 27, 2018. She was born May 19, 1923 to Paul and Ethel (Oswald) Kathka in Decater County, Kans.

Alice moved to California after graduating from Oberlin, Kans. high school in 1940. There she met Kenneth L. Acker to whom she married June 25, 1945. After living in California and Kansas, they settled in Odell for several years before moving to Beatrice in 1971.

Alice was employed by Norris Public Power 19 years. After retiring she was employed by Gage Co. Oil, office of Superintendent of Schools, Medicine Chest Pharmacy, Bookstore in the Burwood building, Silver Screen Video, working the polls for elections and lunchroom duty at St. Joseph’s Catholic School. She did like to stay active.

She found joy in volunteering her time to the Bargain Box, Red Cross serving on the Board of Directors and Bloodmobile where she donated 168 units and the gift shop at the Beatrice Community Hospital. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, active in Alter Society and always willing to provide transportation for friends to attend Mass.

Alice had the mind to absorb knowledge and it showed with her love of game shows. She particularly enjoyed “Millionaire”, “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy”. Often she would give the answers before the contestants could. However, she always said her most favorite time of her life was holding new babies. Her children would probably say her most favorite past time was preparing dinner for a house full of family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters Diane (Ken) Brink of Bellevue, Kay Fisher of Magnolia Springs, Ala., son Dan (Ruth) Acker of Carnation, Wash., sister Billie Bryan of Oberlin, Kans., seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren (with one on the way), plus several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth of 35 years, parents Paul and Ethel, brothers Chuck and Lou Wilhelm, sisters Erma Payne and Mickie Foster.

Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced in Spring of 2019. Condolences can be made at pinerestfuneralhomes.com.
