President: Captive Colombia general to be freed
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos says leftist rebels could free a captive general on Saturday.
Santos made the announcement Wednesday during an event in Bogota.
Members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia captured Gen. Ruben Alzate on Nov. 16 along with an attorney and a captain. He was the first general taken by the group known as the FARC in a half century of conflict.
Santos has conditioned the resumption of peace talks on the general’s release.
