Creek rolls to 48-28 win over Baytown Sterling
Hunter Smith completed 9 of 12 passes for 157 yards and two touchdowns and also ran 48 yards for another score, helping lead Clear Creek to a 48-28 season-opening win over Baytown Sterling.
The victory came in the debut of Wildcat head coach Dwayne Lane Friday night at Challenger Columbia Stadium.
The teams were tied 7-7 after one quarter with Creek’s score coming on a 26-yard hook-up from Smith to Matthew Etzel.
The Wildcats exploded for 20 second-quarter points to grab a 27-14 halftime lead. Those points came on a 24-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Dry to Bryce Borer, an 18-yard TD pass from Smith to Etzel, and a 13-yard run by Borer.
Creek scored three more touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 48-20 lead into the final 12 minutes.
Alex Robles scored on a 58-yard run before Smith added his 48-yard burst. The final Wildcat touchdown came on a 54-yard run by Cody Spears.
Creek amassed 554 yards and 28 first downs while committing just one turnover.
Borer led the Wildcat running game with 92 yards on 11 carries while Robles finished with 70 yards on seven attempts. Smith added 62 yards on seven carries. Pete Miller led Creek receivers with four catches for 57 yards.
Baytown Sterling was led by running backs Calvin Hill (18 carries, 146 yards, 1 TD) and E.J. Hawkins (12 carries, 109 yards, 2 TD).
Creek plays at Deer Park at 7 p.m., Friday.
