Allen: To Dog Owners in Broomfield

December 24, 2018

I enjoy walking in my Lac Amora neighborhood, and do so twice a day. My route takes me on Miramonte/West 10th Avenue, as well as Ridge Drive and other neighborhood streets.

It is especially on Miramonte/West 10th Avenue that I have seen increasing numbers of piles of dog excrement on the sidewalk as well as on the grass bordering the sidewalk. Worst of all are the plastic bags containing dog droppings which are neatly tied off and still left on the sidewalk!

I considered that perhaps dog owners were planning to pick up these bags for proper disposal on their way back home, but sadly, they remain, days later. I wonder how long it takes to decompose once enclosed in a plastic bag.

I presume that these dogs are walked on leashes, and therefore the owner must pause to allow the animal to do its business, so it’s not like owners were unaware that the dog just pooped on a public sidewalk that hundreds of other people use. Please, clean up after your dog!
