HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) _ Billy Henderson’s jumper with 30 seconds left in the game lifted Southern Mississippi to a 70-66 win over Mississippi Valley State Wednesday night.

Southern Miss (12-11) trailed most of the game until Henderson, a reserve guard, scored back-to-back baskets in the final 75 seconds to give the Golden Eagles a 70-66 lead.

Valley (16-9) tried to tie the game but that chance died when Anthony Davis’ shot was blocked by Southern Miss’s Kelly McCarty with 14 seconds left.

Valley jumped out to a double digit lead late in the first half as the Delta Devils displayed incredible three-point shooting.

Valley’s Mark Jennings led the charge hitting a pair of long-range bombs during 12-0 Delta Devil run. The run put Valley up by double digits and gave them a 37-26 halftime lead.

The double-figure advantage was cut when Rod Agee got three-point play to make the lead 65-62 and set the stage for Henderson’s heroics.

Jennings led all scorers in the game with 19 points. Faragi Phillips added 16 for the Delta Devils. McCarty’s 16 points paced Southern Mississippi. Jimmie Floyd scored 13 and Mike Jones added 12 for the Golden Eagles.
