CHICAGO (AP) _ Greg Maddux was denied his 300th win Sunday when he left after six innings with the Chicago Cubs trailing 3-2 against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Maddux, trying to become the 22nd major league pitcher to reach 300 wins, probably will get his next chance Saturday in San Francisco.

The right-hander gave up three runs _ two earned _ and six hits, throwing 87 pitches. He walked two and struck out two.

The Phillies pushed across the go-ahead run in the fifth inning when Maddux hit Marlon Byrd with a pitch and he moved around on a sacrifice, a single by Jimmy Rollins and an error by right fielder Sammy Sosa.

Rollins and Bobby Abreu each homered in the first inning off Maddux to give Philadelphia a 2-0 lead. The Cubs tied the game in the second on homers by Sosa and Aramis Ramirez.
