Texas Tech Tops Tenn.-Chattanooga, 66-53
HONOLULU (AP) _ Plenette Pierson scored 10 of her 17 points in the second half as ninth-ranked Texas Tech drew away and beat stubborn Tennessee-Chattanooga 66-53 Friday in the Paradise Classic.
It was the lowest offensive output this season for the Lady Raiders (6-1), who led only 36-34 at halftime. Nneka Irons led Chattanooga (6-2) with 12 points, but scored just two in the final 30 minutes.
Tech led most for most of the first half, but Chattanooga went ahead 34-33 on Jennifer Wilson’s turnaround just 21 seconds before the break. Texas Tech’s Miklannet Tennal made a 3-pointer with 1 second left in the half to put Tech in front to stay.
The Lady Raiders opened the second half with a 14-2 run and maintained a double-figures lead for the rest of the game.
Jia Perkins and Natalie Ritchie added 10 points each for Texas Tech, and Cisti Greenwalt had six blocks.
