PHILADELPHIA: of the third.
Undated (AP) _ Hextall, who got off to a shaky start this season, turned back 32 shots in extending his unbeaten streak to five games.
″It’s not just tonight,″ he said. ″I’ve been feeling better lately. ... There were people who started to doubt me, but I never did. I never will.″
Coach Paul Holmgren credited the victory to Hextall’s performance and the Capitals’ ineptitude.
″It was a combination of Hextall being on the top of his game and the Capitals missing on the chances,″ Holmgren said. ″They had a lot of chances they just couldn’t cash in. I felt we were fortunate to win.″
Capitals coach Bryan Murry thought his team played well.
But, he said, ″We had a problem putting together two solid periods tonight. We had a lot of chances in the third period. ... Those goals in the first period hurt us. When you get behind 3-1, with Hextall playing like he was and playing the Flyers in this building, it’s always going to be tough.″
Poulin, the Flyers captain, left the game after the first period with heart palpitations. The team’s doctor, Jeff Hartzell, sent Poulin home and ordered tests at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
