Wind farm officials to answer questions at open house Thursday

February 21, 2019

OHIO – Officials from the Big Sky Wind Farm in Lee and Ogle counties will be on hand to answer questions about its proposed project to replace and upgrade its turbines Thursday.

An open house will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Ohio Grade School gym, 103 S. Memorial St., with a question and answer session at 6 p.m.

Topics include environmental permitting, engineering and construction, technology, mapping and landowner outreach, workforce needs and construction staffing, and general project development.

The 240 megawatt wind farm went online in 2011 with 114 turbines stretching across about 14,000 acres in the two counties.

BSW DevCo LLC is petitioning Lee County for a special-use permit to decommission its 58 turbines in the county and replace them with new ones that would stand as tall as 460 feet from the tip of the blade to the base of the turbine.
