LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) _ Captain Steve took the lead from the start and pulled away for a three-length victory Sunday in the $442,000 Lane's End Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland.

Captain Steve, ridden by Garrett Gomez, covered the 1 1-16-mile race in 1:42 2-5.

The win establishes Captain Steve as a leading contender for the $1 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Gulfstream Park on Nov. 6.

Captain Steve, trained by Bob Baffert, won for the second time in five career starts, earning $274,040 Sunday for owner Mike Pegram.

Graeme Hall finished second, seventh lengths in front of Kentucky Cup Juvenile winner Millencolin.

Captain Steve paid $5.80, $4.20 and $3. Graeme Hall returned $9.20 and $4.80. Millencolin paid $2.60 to show.
