DES MOINES — Two organizations are expected Tuesday to announce they’ve filed a lawsuit to challenge a new Iowa law that bans most abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected. By Barbara Rodriguez. UPCOMING: 500 words, photos.


JAIL ESCAPE-IOWA-LAWSUIT — The ex-wife of a Pottawattamie County deputy sheriff who was killed in the line of duty last year has filed a lawsuit against his widow and the county, claiming donations made for his children were never given to them. UPCOMING: 325 words.


CONVICTED SEX OFFENDER-SCHOOL VOLUNTEER — A superintendent who let a convicted sex offender volunteer at an eastern Iowa school district has been given another year on the job.

PAY FREEZE-UNIVERSITY OF IOWA — The University of Iowa has frozen pay increases for teachers and other staff members until January.
