Man struck by train, critically injured in Cary
A man suffered life-threatening injuries after being hit by a train in downtown Cary.
Police said Keith Zantow, 40, of Cary, was crossing the tracks at North Harrison Avenue and North Academy Street, near the Amtrak station, around 3:09 a.m. Thursday when he was hit.
The train conductor called 911.
Zantow was alert when he was taken by ambulance to WakeMed. He was then taken into surgery.
The train was stopped on the tracks as police investigated.
Authorities said pedestrians are not allowed to cross the tracks in that area.
