Connecticut wage gains trail NYC, nation

November 16, 2018

Southwestern Connecticut earners saw their income increase last year at nearly double the gain of 2016, according to new federal estimates, though with the region well behind the broader New York City region that includes portions of northern New Jersey.

Personal earnings increased 3.2 percent last year to just over $110,000 on average in the Bridgeport-Stamford corridor and nearby towns, as calculated by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

That ranked the region just inside the top 200 nationally for gains in personal income, with Midland, Mich. residents leading the nation with a 16.6 percent spike in take-home pay; with the New York City area ranked ninth in the United States with a healthy 5.6 percent bump.
